The University of Aberdeen (Scotland: University Ø Aiberdeen; Aberd for short. Nominal value in the back; Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh OBAR Dheathain) is a public research university in Aberdeen, Scotland. This is an ancient university founded in 1495. William Elphinstone, Bishop of Aberdeen and President of Scotland, appealed to Pope Alexander VI on behalf of James IV, the King’s College established by the King of Scotland to make it Scotland The third largest university and fifth among English-speaking countries. According to the “Guardian” report, Aberdeen has been ranked among the top 200 universities in the world and among the top 20 universities in the UK.

The university consists of three colleges-King's College, Marisha College and Christian College-now mainly the School of Liturgy. The current university was formed by the merger of King’s College and Marischal College in 1860. The latter was the second university established in 1593 and was a Protestant of the former. The iconic buildings of the university symbolize the wider Aberdeen, especially the crown spires of Marisal College in the city center and the old King's College of Aberdeen. There are two campuses. The campus, mainly used for the King’s College campus, occupies the part of the city known as Old Aberdeen, about 2 miles north of the city centre. Despite being the original location of the university, with the exception of the King’s College Chapel and the Quadrilateral Chapel, most academic buildings were built during the massive expansion of the 20th century. The University’s Foresterhill campus is adjacent to the Royal Aberdeen Hospital and has the School of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Medicine. Together, these buildings form one of the largest healthy campuses in Europe. The agency’s annual revenue from 2017-18 was 219.5 million pounds, of which 56.1 million pounds came from research grants and contracts, and expenditures were 226.8 million pounds.

Aberdeen has 14,775 students from undergraduate to doctoral degree (as of 2018/19), including many international students. The university teaches a variety of subjects and offers 650 undergraduate degree programs in the 2012-13 academic year. Aberdeen has cultivated many famous alumni, and the university has played a key role in the Scottish Reform, the Scottish Enlightenment and the Scottish Revival. Since then, five Nobel Prize winners have been associated with this university: two in chemistry, one in physiology or medicine, one in physics, and one in peace.
