The University of Pennsylvania has four universities, as well as twelve graduate schools and professional schools. The school enrolls undergraduates including the School of Engineering and Applied Science in the School of Arts and Sciences, the Wharton School of Business and the School of Nursing. The “One University Policy” of the University of Pennsylvania allows students to take classes in any of the twelve schools in the University of Pennsylvania. Among its graduate schools and professional schools are the first medical school in North America (Perelman School of Medicine, 1765) and the first business school (Wharton School of Business, 1881).
 
The University of Pennsylvania was also home to the first "Student Union" building and organization (Houston Hall, 1896), the first Catholic student club in North America (Newman Center, 1893), and the first double-tier college football stadium (Franklin Field) , 1924 (when the second deck was built), and the Morris Arboretum, the official botanical garden of the federal government of Pennsylvania. The first general electronic computer (ENIAC) was developed in Pennsylvania and officially put into use in 1946. In 2019, the university’s endowment fund was 14.65 billion U.S. dollars, making it the sixth largest endowment fund among all universities in the United States, and its research budget was 1.02 billion U.S. dollars. Quakers, the university's sports program, is a member of the Ivy League Conference of the NCAA, deploying college sports teams in 33 sports.
