In 2004, the university began construction of 150 acres (61 hectares) of "M Square Research Park", which includes facilities associated with the U.S. Department of Defense, Food and Drug Administration, and related new National Weather and Climate Prediction Center and United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) cooperation. In May 2010, the ground was broken for a new $128 million 158,068 square foot (14,685.0 m 2) physical science complex, which includes an advanced quantum science laboratory.
Wallace Loh served as the president of the university in 2010.
From 2006 to 2012, private donations to the University’s "Big Expectation" campaign exceeded $1 billion.
The university suffered multiple data breaches in 2014. The first incident resulted in the loss of the records of more than 300,000 students and staff. A second data breach occurred a few months later. The FBI and Secret Service investigated the second violation and found that the behavior was completed by David Helkowski. Despite the signature, no lawsuit was filed. Due to the data breach, the university provided five years of free credit protection to affected students and faculty.
In 2012, the University of Maryland College Park and the University of Baltimore, Maryland joined forces under the National Power Plan initiative to take advantage of the two institutions. The 2016 University of Maryland Strategic Partnership Act formally formalized this partnership.
The University District Plan of the University of Maryland was formulated in 2011 under the leadership of President Wallace Loh and the University Park City Council. By 2020, it will become the top 20 university city. -K-12 education and support for sustainability projects. As of 2018, the university has participated in more than 30 projects and 1.5 million square feet of development projects as part of its "University Campus Plan", and its public-private investment exceeds US$1 billion. The university’s vision is to revitalize the campus to create a vibrant and innovative academic environment, and to work with surrounding communities and local governments to create a vibrant downtown community for students and teachers.
Effective February 12, 2020, it was announced that Darryll J. Pines will serve as the 34th President of University Park in Maryland, effective July 1, 2020. Darryll J. Pines is the dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Since January 2009, he has served as Nariman Farvardin Professor of Aerospace Engineering. Darryll J. Pines (Darryll J. Pines) has worked at the University Park of Maryland for 25 years since he joined the University Park in 1995 and began to serve as an assistant professor.
