In Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Georgia Institute of Technology, or in Georgia, such as Technology, is a public research university and technical college in Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of the University of Georgia system, with a satellite campus in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Athlone, Ireland; Shenzhen, China; and Singapore.

The school was established in 1885 as the Georgia Institute of Technology as part of the reconstruction plan to establish an industrial economy in the southern United States after the Civil War. Initially, it only offered degrees in mechanical engineering. By 1901, its courses had been expanded to include electrical, civil and chemical engineering. In 1948, the school was renamed to reflect its evolution from a business school to a larger and more capable technical college and research university. Today, Georgia Institute of Technology is composed of six colleges, including about 31 departments/departments, with a focus on science and technology. It is widely recognized for its computer science and engineering degree programs.

Student sports activities, whether organized or in-campus activities, are part of the lives of students and alumni. The school’s intercollegiate competitive sports team, the four-time rugby national champion yellow jacket, and the nationally recognized fighting song "Rambolin Shipwreck of Georgia Institute of Technology" have kept Georgia Institute of Technology well-known. Georgia Institute of Technology sent eight men's and seven women's teams to participate in the NCAA Division I track and field and football bowl divisions. Georgia Institute of Technology is a member of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
