Subject professional librarians provide research assistance for each academic department of the university. The annual Robert Woodruff Library Undergraduate Research Award recognizes those undergraduates who have extensively used the Woodruff Library's collections and research resources in their original scholarships and have demonstrated critical analysis evidence in their research skills.
 
In 2012, the Princeton Review listed the Robert W. Woodruff Library as one of the top ten "best university libraries" in the United States. In 2013, the Pitts Theological Library at Candler Theological Seminary was named one of the "world's most beautiful university libraries".
