The Graduate School of Cape Coast University (SGS) was established on August 1, 2008. It was originally a Higher Education Committee whose task was to advise the Senate on the university’s graduate policy and to recommend scholarships for approval. In 1992, the Higher Education Committee was transformed into a Graduate Committee. The committee is a subcommittee of the academic committee, responsible for managing the university’s graduate education until its location is upgraded to a college on August 1, 2008. The mission of the college is to coordinate all colleges within the university for academic programs at the graduate level. It also oversees the postgraduate courses of the University College of Cape Coast University and provides advice.

In order to realize its vision and mission, the school has four functions:

Draft regulations for all higher degrees to ensure that acceptable academic standards are maintained.
Receive reports from faculty and college graduate committees and consider recommendations for higher degrees and graduate diplomas.
Determine the results of higher degrees and graduate diplomas.
Make recommendations to the academic committee for the award of higher degrees and graduate diplomas.
The university's regular graduate courses adopt a two-semester system. The first semester starts from August to December, and the second semester starts from January to May. The university grants Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Master of Business in various disciplines (M.Sc.) .Com.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.

MA/M.Ed./M.Sc. courses usually consist of two (2) semesters of coursework (nine (9) months), followed by a project or thesis (three (3) months).

The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) course usually consists of two parts. The first part includes two semester coursework for full-time students and four semester coursework for part-time students. The second part is 12 months long and is used for research and presentation of papers. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) course is essentially conducted through research. The length of schooling for full-time students is 3 to 4 years, and for part-time students is 4 to 5 years.
